What do you offer?

Bali Boo creates premium alternatives to plastic. Our first and all-star product has always been our Bamboo Straws, but we’ve introduced a lot of other products like Coconut Bowls, Bamboo Cutlery, Bamboo Toothbrushes, Bamboo Cotton Swabs, and Activated Bamboo Charcoal among others. We always go out of our way to bring the best solution possible, and we do so always with a sustainable approach in mind.

Meet Diego and Fred, the founder of Bali Boo and their team

Why did you start the business?

Living in Bali, plastic waste is an every day thing. We are nature lovers, and surfers, and we were fed up of seeing so much plastic trash floating in the ocean, drifting from the sea onto the beaches, and in general being thrown all over the place. We set out to create a company that would address these problems, but that did it in an ethical, fair and attractive way, because we think that sustainability isn’t only about being ‘eco’ but it has to be engaging, attractive and motivating. That is why we pay above-average prices to our workers and our suppliers, with whom we maintain a very close relationship. Being present in Bali allows us to really take control of our production and to offer the best sustainable products possible.

What keeps you motivated?

For us, our motivation is to see how people love our products, to see that we are really creating an impact locally and globally. Locally through our #TheEarthSaysThanks project, in which we give away thousands of Bamboo Straws to local restaurants and bars who can’t afford to “go sustainable”. And globally by being an active part of the movement against plastic waste, through collaborations with organizations like Bas Les Pailles, The Clean Ocean Project, or even Greenpeace and always through happy customers that rave about our products, and through everybody that reaches out to us on a daily basis for ways in which to take their business or their life into a less plastic-dependent one.

What are your future plans?

Although we have great plans for the future, we try not to think about it too much, things change a lot and we just try to keep a cold head, being really strict with maintaining our values and being consistent with what we like doing, which is being the best we can be.

What is your message?

Our message is “Do not settle”, do not settle for the easy solution, be it eating trash food, or just buying the cheaper and easy option. The most convenient option might seem the best at first, but it ends up being the not-so-good solution after…  Try to go out of your way to do things as best as they can be, because your efforts do make a difference, not only with and for yourself, but with our planet and the rest of beings in it.
